Demonologist Representatives fulfill the second role in the chain of command for Demonologists. They answer only to The Head Council of Demonologists, though are expected to work collaboratively with whomever the head of state for their assigned city is and abide by their laws. There are generally 2-3 Demonologist Reps. per country, depending on the population count and other varying factors. The exceptions to this are White Shore with only one representative, and Faraday which has four; This is due to the low population and low demonic activity in White Shore, and the high population and history of significant code violations in Faraday.
Requirements
It is not known exactly what criteria The Council of Demonologists requires of those they select to become Demonologist Representatives. Common factors include a high intellect, political and/or military background, strong piety, and a small social circle – though there have been several exceptions to these qualifications over the years. At a minimum, all Demonologist Reps are of adult age for their species and do not have many family ties. Demonologist Representatives must remain unwed and child-less throughout the course of their service, and will be immediately discharged if they fail to do so.
Appointment
Demonologist Representatives are chosen by The Councial of Demonologists, and there is no way for one to “apply” for the position. They choose who they deem best for the position and extend the offer to them, with the understanding that whomever is being offered has the full ability to refuse, but they will not be considered again. Across the world, being selected to be a Demonologist Representative is seen as an honor, and there have been seldom few instances of people turning the council down (that is publicly known, anyway).Once the council has extended the offer and the person in question accepts it, they are immediately taken to an undisclosed location (widely speculated to be wherever the council resides) where they will remain for exactly 2 months for training. Upon their return, they are stripped of the memories of their travel there and any specifics, and only retain the training and information they were given pertaining to their job. This is to ensure that the memories of the council cannot be extracted from them, be it by magical means or otherwise. Once they return to society, they are assigned to a city (typically far from their home city and country). They begin work immediately replacing whichever Demonologist Rep they are replacing, ensuring that there are never any laps in oversight should one Rep become unable to keep the position (typically because of relocation, retirement, or death).
Duties
The main duty of Demonologist Rep.’s are forming and maintaining Demon Hunter Units for their assigned area, ensuring that they always have an appropriate amount of units on-hand for whatever need may arise. They are also responsible for overseeing any court cases relating to the Code of Demonologists, as the moment a potential code violation is brought into a case the Demonologist Rep assigned to the area steps in and assumes the role of lead investigator, interrogator, and prosecutor. This typically leads to the local police having to distance themselves from such cases and, occasionally, resentment forming between the Demonologist Rep. and local officials. A more minor responsibility that is still vital to their position is overseeing any educational courses that cover demons in any capacity. Most religious studies courses will feature a module on demonology at some point - most common in secondary school - that will go over the various lords (only their names and domains) and how Demonology is handled on Centaria. Higher education courses may cover slightly more regarding the lords and occasionally their spawn, but even then information is kept to a minimum and students are not allowed to study outside of the materials given to them (as per the Code of Demonologists). Demonologist Rep’s are expected to oversee and occasionally teach said classes, to ensure that no unauthorized information is being taught.
Benefits
Aside from the guaranteed employment, the main benefit for Demonologist Representative’s is the social status and lifestyle. To make up for the fact that they are encouraged to keep outside relationships to a minimum, Demonologist Rep.’s are well compensated and normally have Nobility status.
Grounds for Removal/Dismissal
A Demonologist Representative has four main ways they can be removed from their post:
Demonologists that are relocated do not have to undergo any memory-altering spells or procedures, though a demonologist rep leaving for any other reason does. Much like after their training, their memories of any information they gathered as a Demonologist Rep. are taken away. They are still allowed to keep memories of their time working, but any demon-specific information is purged.
