COPYCAT PANDA EXPRESS TERIYAKI CHICKEN
This simple Asian dish can be made in less than 45 minutes, making it the perfect weeknight dinner recipe. Made with chicken, soy sauce, garlic paste, brown sugar, and a few other simple ingredients, this favorite family recipe is delicious. Serve with a scoop of rice for a well-balanced meal.
Ingredients in Copycat Panda Express Teriyaki Chicken
Chicken thighs – The recipe calls for 6 boneless, skinless chicken thighs. You can use chicken breasts instead, but thighs are more tender and juicy and tend to have more flavor.
Salt & pepper – Just a little bit of salt and pepper is needed to season the chicken.
Olive oil – Olive oil works perfectly for cooking the chicken. You can use avocado oil or a different type of oil if you’d like.
HOMEMADE TERIYAKI SAUCE
Soy sauce – Soy sauce provides most of the flavor in the teriyaki sauce. You can use a reduced-sodium soy sauce if you’re trying to cut down on salt. If you need to make the sauce gluten-free, you can use coconut aminos instead. I use this in place of soy sauce in many different recipes and I love the flavor!
Garlic paste – Garlic paste has a lot of flavor and is very smooth, but you can swap it out with a large clove of garlic (minced) or a teaspoon of minced garlic.
Ginger paste – If you would like to use ginger powder instead of ginger powder, you will only need 1/4 teaspoon of powder.
Brown sugar – Just one teaspoon of brown sugar will help to sweeten up the sauce. For best results, make sure the brown sugar is soft and fresh.
Apple cider vinegar – A little bit of apple cider vinegar adds a lot of flavor and intensifies flavors from the other ingredients as well.
Water – A few tablespoons of water adds necessary liquid and flavor dilution to the sauce.
Cornstarch – Cornstarch helps to thicken the sauce to just the right consistency.
HOW TO MAKE COPYCAT PANDA EXPRESS TERIYAKI CHICKEN
Salt and pepper the chicken thighs.
Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Once the oil is hot, fry chicken thighs on each side for 7 minutes, then transfer to a plate.
Mix all teriyaki sauce ingredients except cornstarch and water in a bowl. Dissolve the starch in water and then pour it into a cup of sauce – this way you will avoid lumps. Mix everything again.
Pour the sauce into the pan after frying the chicken and heat for 2 minutes, stirring.
Transfer the chicken thighs to the pan and toss them until they are completely coated with the teriyaki. Heat for another 5 minutes, being careful not to thicken the sauce too much.
Serve teriyaki chicken with rice and broccoli. Before serving, you can sprinkle with sesame seeds and green onions.

WHAT TO SERVE WITH TERIYAKI CHICKEN?
Some great side dishes include steamed white rice, fried rice, yakisoba noodles, and egg rolls. Even serving it alongside more steamed veggies can be a great option! And don’t forget dessert. Chocolate Zucchini Cake or No Bake Strawberry Jello Cheesecake are both great options that taste great with everything!

To cook rice on the stove, you will need 1 cup of rice and 1 1/2 cups of water. Add the rice and water to a pot and heat over high heat until boiling. Place the lid on the pan and reduce heat to a simmer for about 13 minutes. Remove the pan from heat and leave the lid on for 5-10 more minutes before taking the lid off and fluffing the rice with a fork. 1 cup of uncooked rice will yield the 2 cups of cooked rice needed for the recipe.
